Law Enforcement Recognition Awards Breakfast

Congratulations to Officer John Gallagher, from the Santa Monica Police Department, who received the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) award for arresting over 50 drunk drivers in 2005. John was one of over 300 police officers statewide to receive the award. Pictured above, from left to right, is Lt. Second Annual Strides for Change 5K Walk


Teams Santa Monica PD, Explorers, members of Santa Monica PAL and SMAUD – Santa Monica Against Underage Drinking participated in MADD's second annual "Strides For Change" walk and raised funds through sales of MADD elastic bracelets and donations.
Strides for Change, MADD's signature walk, is a fun, community-driven 5K walk that raises funds to save lives. Every step taken and pledge made helps raise funds and awareness for MADD's programs and services that will serve to make our communities safer.

Santa Monica PD and SMAUD, exceeding their fund raising goals.

National Night of Compliance

The national 21 Minimum Drinking Age Law was passed July 17, 1984. Marking this 21st Anniversary, a nationwide "Night of Compliance" weekend campaign was conducted by MADD and law enforcement agencies in 21 cities, including Santa Monica.
Santa Monica Police Chief James T. Butts, Jr. unveils local compliance check results and talks about the underage drinking problem. Of the 21 compliance checks conducted for the MADD Anniversary Celebrations, only two retailers sold to the underage decoy buyer.
